Fishing Breaks In South Wales - Usk River & Llandegfedd Reservoir

If your passion is game angling, then Wales is for you. It has a wealth of rivers and lakes in a variety of stunning scenarios, choosing where to fish is often more difficult than actually catching your fish.

However, here at The Three Salmons Hotel we have put together some fishing breaks, to make it that bit easier.

1 Day Fishing, 1 Night Break - £200.00 per person (based on two people sharing) Single supplement £15
One night Dinner Bed and Breakfast in a Double or Twin room; one day’s fishing of your choice, for two people, on either the Llandegfedd Reservoir or the Usk River, and a packed picnic for two for the day of the fishing (personal rod license not included) - Superior Room £225.00 per person (based on two people sharing)

Llandegfedd Reservoir
One of the best known Welsh reservoirs, this 434 acre water is set in rolling landscape near to the towns of Pontypool and Usk. The fishery is heavily stocked with Rainbow Trout but also holds Brown Trout, bream, Roach, Pike and Perch. Fishing is fly only. The reservoir allows for a variety of approaches to fly fishing from easy access lure fishing to more challenging stalking with nymphs and dry fly, from both the bank and from boats. Seasons:
Rainbow Trout - 1st March to 31st October
Brown Trout - 20th March to 17th October.

Bag Limits:
Full day – 6 Fish (Anglers must stop fishing when catch limit is reached or purchase another ticket at the fishery)

Usk River
The River Usk has long been renowned for its wild brown trout. Fishing on the Usk River can also be arranged through the hotel. The permit entitles you to fish brown trout, fly only, 2 miles both banks. Only thigh waders allowed.

Seasons:
Brown Trout – 3rd March to 30th September.

Bag Limits:
Full day – 4 Fish (over 10inches)

Rod License :
Any angler aged 12 years or over, fishing for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels in England (except the River Tweed), Wales or the Border Esk and its tributaries in Scotland must have an Environment Agency rod licence.

Rod licences are available from Post Office outlets throughout England and Wales, or online the Environmental Fishing Agency. These range from just a few pounds for a day’s license, all the way to a full season’s license.

A few things to be aware of:
• Full and concessionary rod licences expire on 31 March each year
• 1-day rod licence is valid for 24 consecutive hours
• 8-day rod licence is valid for 192 consecutive hours from the start time and date
